Will there be difficulty levels?
We do not plan to include a difficulty selection option at launch - we are designing Valor Mortis to be an experience tailored to a specific challenge. However, this does not rule out the possibility that additional options may be added over time.
Can I rebind my control scheme?
Yes, Valor Mortis is full Mouse and Keyboard rebindable. For those playing with Controllers, there will be several preset control schemes to choose from.
This game is really hard. What should I do?
We can’t play the game for you, but here are some tips and tricks that may help you:
- Watch the posture bar. Enemies have a Sekiro-style posture/stagger meter – land hits and parries to break it and open opportunities for critical attacks / critical strikes or a powerful finisher.
- Parry, Dodge and Block
- Commit to your swings. Animations can't be canceled into a parry, so don't start an attack you can't finish. A clean parry lands with a metallic clang and sets up enemies for counter-attacks, and a perfect dodge creates a beat of slow-motion.
- Learn to parry, then hit back. Parrying (for weapons that support it) is a powerful tool. Time your block just right to break posture and land huge hits and finishers against your staggered enemies.
- Blocking and immediately counter-attacking regenerates health.
- Make your shots count. Ammo is scarce – aim down sights at glowing weak points (pustules/"lambent blisters"), detonate the explosive barrels some enemies carry, and shoot the glowing red-orange nodes to reveal blocked paths. Keep an eye out for weak points, destroying those restores your Nephtoglobin, and killing enemies with Nephto gives you ammo.
- Burn, then finish. The Fire Transmutation sets enemies alight.
- You can always run. In true Soulslike fashion, you don’t have to fight every enemy along the way. Oftentimes after dying, it’s best to run through enemies to pick up your lost catalyst currency.
- Don’t Forget
- Progress your character. Upgrade William’s health, damage reduction, stamina and parry efficiency.
- Equip build-warping Ambers. Throughout the game you’ll find Ambers that enhance and personalize your character build even more. As you progress and level up, you can slot more Ambers via the Level Up UI at Lanterns.
- Upgrade your arsenal. Every Weapon and Transmutation has an upgrade path unlocked with various materials.
I don’t know where to go next. What should I do?
Check your quest log for any hints about where to go next.
Remember that your Nephtoglobin powers and firearms can help with traversal. You can grapple across large distances, burn down supernatural walls, and shoot bulging masses to open up new paths and progress forward!
Most levels in the game are designed to loop back to a few Lantern save points in each level. You can try to find your way back to the previous Lantern, then head down a path that seems unfamiliar to progress farther in the level.
If all else fails, you can turn to your comrades in the Valor Mortis Discord.
What can I do after completing the game’s campaign?
Congratulations! Valor Mortis will return in 2027 with a Major Story DLC. In the meantime, if you’re still hungry for more, some of the most powerful enemies you'll encounter in Valor Mortis are also the most well-hidden. Explore every corner of the interconnected levels – you never know what you'll discover, or what kind of trouble you'll find!
Will there be a New Game+?
Not at the moment, but we may consider adding it in future updates.
